Homework

At Dunchurch, the most important piece of homework that can be completed by families is reading, both by hearing children read and reading stories to them. Reading supports the children to develop a secure knowledge of stories, stimulates their imagination and develops their vocabulary.

In addition to reading, the following homework may be set in each year group:

Nursery – An activity to complete as a family will be sent home once every half term

Reception – As the children start to take part in phonics lessons and become more secure in their phonic knowledge, letter cards will be sent home with a bank of suggested words for the children to read and build with an adult. This will take place towards the end of the first half of the autumn term. Once children have had further teaching in phonics and have started to read to blend words, reading books will be sent home that are linked to the children’s phonic knowledge. This will take place during the autumn term at the time that is right for individual children.

Year 1 – In addition to reading homework, year 1 children will be set additional homework on a weekly basis.

Year 2 – In addition to reading homework, year 2 children will be set additional homework on a weekly basis.
